ABOUT US

Red Light is a 90-seat eatery serving regional American cuisine using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients in a funky, casual setting. From the Wall Street exec to the real estate mogul to the local yoga instructor, brings people together for the sole purpose of taking “the Miami” out of Miami, allowing them to relish in South Floridian delights next to the osprey and ibis (and the neon-lit gentleman’s club across the way…)

Opened in May of 2008, Red Light is now one of Miami’s most lauded restaurants recognized by the New York Times former restaurant critic, Frank Bruni, as well as Bon Apetit Magazine and other publications. Most recently, Chef Kris Wessel was nominated as a semi-finalist for a James Beard Foundation Award in the “Best Chefs of the South East” category.

Location

Red Light is located in the MiMo District of Miami proper at 7700 Biscayne Blvd on the ground level of the Blu Motel, historically known as the Gold Dust Motel. Known for once possessing some of the seedier elements of society, the MiMo District began to reinvent and establish itself as a viable commercial and dining destination about five years ago. With timing on his side, Chef Kris and crew carved out and renovated the multi-level restaurant and lounge facility over the course of two years and in May of 2008 opened Red Light.

Couisine

Completely driven by products native to the South Eastern regions of the USA (and his mood…), Chef Kris’s melting pot of a style includes inspiration from his home town of New Orleans, flavors akin to the numerous cultures populating Miami and a hint of his daily life whether that includes hand picking seasonal mulberries in Dania, harvesting his own collard greens in Homestead or purchasing just-caught fish from a local fisherman. Cult classics include Spicy BBQ Shrimp, “Little Red Smoker” Ribs with Granny Smith Apple Slaw and Oyster Pie.
